Office on a new PC: check installation and activation

A new PC does not automatically inherit your Office installation or its activation. First identify your Office version and the terms of your particular purchase. This helps avoid the wrong installer and unnecessary purchases.

Identify the version and order

  • On the old PC, open Word → File → Account and read the product name.
  • Have your order number, edition and purchase date ready.
  • Distinguish Microsoft 365, account-linked purchases and the edition actually supplied.
  • If the old PC no longer starts, use your order documents and contact support.

Transfer depends on the product

Whether existing usage may move to another PC and activate again depends on the product and its terms. Microsoft describes transfers for certain one-time purchases. Those rules cannot automatically be applied to every Office edition or product key. We therefore check your specific order.

Use the correct installation

This shop’s Office 2024 Professional Plus offer is for one Windows PC, not macOS. Check its current product-page requirements and use your order’s installer and instructions. A preinstalled Microsoft 365 trial is not automatically the right installation for the key you bought.

If activation fails

Note the installed Office product name and exact error code. Send these to support with your order number and, if possible, a screenshot. An error does not automatically mean that you need a new purchase or replacement key.
